The grading system in kyokushin karate is designed to test the fundamental elements of the style. This is to ensure that students will attain core knowledge they can use as a basis to practice and implement the techniques of Karate.
We typically hold two gradings per year at Hāwea Karate. One mid-year, and another grading at the end of the year for junior belts only.
Additional kata sessions are held in the lead up to gradings. Contact Senpai Amy to find out more.
Below is a list of the kata, stamina requirements, kumite (sparring) rounds, ippon kumite (one step fighting), goshin jutsu (self defence) and tamashi wari (breaks) that candidates will need to know for the grading.
